Accounting, Finance & Audit Talent Search for Insurance Companies

Insurance Finance Is Hiring for Ownership

One thing we are seeing in insurance finance hiring is an emphasis on ownership. Companies still need people who can close the books, produce financial reporting, build forecasts and understand the numbers. But that’s just part of the job.

The stronger hires are being asked to own an area, exercise judgment, understand and explain what’s driving the numbers, and work effectively across the organization. That includes communicating clearly with auditors, regulators, boards and, of course, senior management. For candidates, that changes how you should talk about your experience. It is not just what you produced or what process you were responsible for. It is what you owned, what decisions you helped influence, and how you made the function or business better.

For companies, it means looking beyond whether someone has simply done the job before. The better question may be whether they have demonstrated the ability to take responsibility for what the role ultimately needs to accomplish. Did you own it?
