Your Resume Shows Where You Worked. Not Why You Were Successful.

A resume tells people where you worked, what your title was, and how long you were there. It usually does not explain what you walked into.

  • Did you inherit a strong team or a difficult situation?
  • Were you maintaining a process that already worked, or rebuilding one that did not?
  • Were you hired to support growth, lead a transformation, stabilize a function, or prepare for succession?

That context matters. Two people can have the same title at the same company for the same number of years and have very different experience.
Candidates often assume the resume speaks for itself. It does not.

Do not just list your responsibilities. Explain what you inherited, what needed to change, what you did, and what was different when you left. That is what helps a hiring VP understand where your experience is relevant.

Your title gets attention.

The context behind it is what gets you hired.
